    They need moisture and a good food source along with a little shelter to survive and thrive! Ladybugs prey on other insects, mostly Aphids.
    
    In cold, they seem to take shelter and like to bury themselves underground. And in cold conditions, their food sources become scarce! Therefore, the container having good sunlight for optimum temperature, wet soil for water, and plants for shelter makes the perfect living condition for the ladybug even though the lid is always closed!  less

    Naomi Debnath A small ecosystem was created within the jar, where the moisture turned to steam and created air to breathe for the living beings and plants recycled the air. Overall the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide is just enough for the plants and the ladybug to survive.

    When the plants dried out and decomposed, they served as nutrients for the soil and also gave birth to new plants.
    The ladybug in the container used the oxygen that the plants produced to breathe and the plants leaves for its food supply to live inside the small ecosystem inside the glass container.  less

    Our ladybug here got her own little world in the self-sufficient container with food,light,and a warm moist environment.She can snack on leaves and plant-eating pests. So, she can happily live there even though the lid is closed.

We know plants produce oxygen using sunlight through photosynthesis process. As there were wet soil,that plant can absorb water from it. As for the charcoal and gravels,they reduce the moisture from the air so that too much moisture doesn't kill the bug or the plant. The plant inside the jar continuously produce oxygen so the bug won’t die there by suffocating. As for the bugs food it can suck up nutritiants from the plant. That's how the small ecosystem of the jar works.  less

In a typical greenhouse, sunlight is trapped within the glass walls of the infrastructures and the thus the seeds have enough heat and solar energy to germinate into plants and so on. Don't you think the plants are producing oxygen in the daytime as they are growing and carbon dioxide at night? Thus the water vapor is also locked in within the structure and there you go, we have a complete eco-system.
    
    Now lets talk about a case much smaller than the greenhouse. Yes, it the ladybug's new home, the glass container. The plants growing inside the jar is serving two purposes- oxygen for the ladybug and also its food.
    Though the world it is living in right now is quite miniscule but it is sufficient for the bug to survive and has all the basic necessities as the outside world.  less

Our best friend trees supplies the oxygen.Inside the container,there were small plants which are continuously producing oxygen and giving the ladybug the scope for survival. But that's not free of cost actually.Our ladybug is also producing carbon-di-oxide.And our small plants are taking this carbon-di-oxide for it's own survival or more accurately for producing it's own food. Thus ,gaseous exchange is occuring between the plants and the ladybug and they both are helping each other to survive creating a small ecosystem inside the container. Well that satisfies for the respiration.What about the other factors of living?? Perhaps ,you are talking about the...    less

    need CO2 to live.They inhaled the CO2 and exhaled the
    Oxygen.With the Oxygen released by the plants,the ladybug survived and it exhaled CO2.The plants then again used the CO2 and exhaled Oxygen.In this way,it continues in a cycle.
    For making food,plants need 4 things: water,mineral,CO2
    and sunlight.Water and mineral is available in the wet soil.CO2 is available in the air,whereas,sunlight is also saying ‘hi’ there!So?Food prepared!
    Again,the main food of ladybug is small insect called ‘Aphid’,which sucks the juice of plants and live there.So, ladybug is getting enough food for her.This is how they both are surviving in the closed container.  less

Symbiosis means interaction between two dissimilar organism where both benefit from being with each other. When we are putting the ladybug and the plants inside the glass jar they are getting sealed from the rest of the world. The ladybug respires which releases carbon dioxide, which is taken up by the leaves of the plant. The leaves also get sufficient sunlight from the sun as the glass is transparent. And it also gets minerals from the charcoals in the soil ans as the soil was wet plants can absorb water from it too . The plants use this for photosynthesis and to produce oxygen and glucose. The glucose is used by the plants for food and the oxygen is used by the ladybug for respiration. The ladybug also feeds on the plants to survive. This is how the plant and the ladybug depends on each other to survive. This is known as symbiosis and this is why the plant and the ladybug both survived even if the container...    less

So using all of that in the process of photosynthesis,plant is growing and producing foods,oxygens and heat energy. Those plants need carbon dioxide to grow (plants absorb carbon dioxide through their stomata). For our container analogy, we can say that the plants inside the container are using photosynthesis to create their own food supply from sunlight and CO2. The gravel supplies nutrients such as nitrogen, magnesium and phosphorus which play important role in plant growth. Charcoal also acts like gravel by keeping up humidity levels for optimum growth conditions. The ladybug eats the plants, but both organisms benefit from receiving nutrients from each other.  less

    Few things ladybug needs to live-
    -Oxygen.
    -Food source.
    -Clean air that does not contain harmful gas like ammonia.
    -Suitable humidity
    -Available water source
    The jer fulfills the requirements like this-
    *Plants and algae give oxygen and get Co2 from ladybugs and other organisms.
    *Plants get energy from the sun and provide food for organisms. The energy stays almost the same as bacteria and protozoa decompose dead organisms and fallen leaves.
    *Bacteria and protozoa break down the waste and make ammonia into nitrate that plants can take. So the air stays clean.
    *Charcoal removes excess humidity.
    *Water evaporates but comes back to the system like rain.
    The jer completes the energy cycle, Co2 cycle, Oxygen Cycle, Hydrogen cycle, decomposition, and controls humidity and air quality. So, Ladybug and her friends can live happily by supporting each other.  less
